PTE - what does that mean?

A PTE test is a Pearson Test of English. The PTE is available in two versions: Academic and General. PTE tests candidates’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English. Three hours will be allocated for the test. Candidates must attempt an untimed introduction within three hours. In between each phase of the process, there is always an optional scheduled break of up to ten minutes.

What is the structure of the test?

Each section of the examination is divided into three parts. There are four sections to the PTE examination: Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening.

Writing & Speaking:

There is a time limit of 77-93 minutes for this part of the exam. Part one of the exam focuses mainly on speaking and writing skills. In the first section, students are given the opportunity to introduce themselves. Scores are not given for this portion of the question. The purpose of this is simply to provide information to the selected institutions. During part two, students listen to audio and then speak into a microphone to answer questions. The questions in this section include reading aloud, repeating sentences, describing images, recounting lectures, answering short questions, summarizing written tests, and writing essays.

Listening:

It takes 45-57 minutes to complete this part of the exam. Under this section, students will be given questions such as summarize spoken text, multiple choice-choose multiple answers, fill in the blanks, highlight correct summary, multiple choice-choose single answer, select missing word, highlight incorrect words, and write from dictation. –

Reading:

The duration of this section of the test is 32-41 minutes. It includes questions such as multiple choice – pick a single answer, multiple choice – pick a number of answers, reordering paragraphs, filling in blanks, reading and writing – fill in the blanks, etc.

What is the score system in PTE?

In comparison to IELTS, PTE scores are as follows:

The IELTSPTE includes 4.5 bands 30-40 marks, 5.0 bands 35-43 marks, 5.5 bands 44- 50 marks, 6.0 bands 51- 57 marks, 6.5 bands 58- 65 marks, 7.5 bands 73- 79 marks, and 8.5 bands 84- 86 marks, and 9.5 bands 86- 90 marks.

How can I prepare for the PTE exam?

The Do’s

  • When writing, use the correct punctuation: full stops, capital letters, and commas.
  • Please answer the question. You should not deviate from the topic of sport if the question asks you to write or speak about it.
  • Don’t exceed the word limit for writing assignments.
  • During speaking tasks, respond quickly and keep speaking. In three seconds, the microphone will close and the recording will stop.

The Don’t

  • Use only capital letters. Use capitals only when necessary: at the beginning of sentences, in names, etc.
